(二)          面试官可能问到的问题：
What will you do in America?

I will begin my graduate study there and pursue Ph.D.

Why would you study in USA？

USA has high reputation in Graduate education around the world. I want to
learn more advanced knowledge there.

Why would you continue your Ph. D. study?

I want to become a qualified researcher, and the undergraduate study would
not be enough.

How long will you stay in USA?

I will stay until I get my degree.

So which school are you going to study?

XXXX

How much do you know about this university?

xxx

How did you know xxx?

I know xx from friends. They once discussed the most well-known universities
in USA, and I learned xx. I found this university is very famous in
Engineering and it becomes my dream school.

Why would you choose xx?

xx has high reputation in Mechanical Engineering. And the control program is
appealing to me.

What’s your major focus？

Control

Explain this.

Automatic control is used in design a system to make machine perform better.

Why would you like to learn control?

The soul & core of a machine is control.

What’s your project name

The Intelligent control of Robot manipulators

Could you explain the project?

The goal is to improve robot’s performance in speed, accuracy and reduce
its cost. We design control strategy to realize this goal.

What’s the project’s application?

The manipulator will be used in industry to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Who will be your advisor?

Prof. xx  he is xxx at School of Engineering.

Who will pay for your study?

The graduate school at xxx

What course will you study?

Courses such as linear control theory, robust control, learning control and
feedforward control

Other physical courses, such as thermal courses and mechanics

Mathematics such as Functional Analysis and finite elements

Which course do you think is most difficult?

Elastic mechanics, since it needs strong mathematic background.

What’s your future plan?

I want to finish my phd and become a qualified researcher. I will return to
China to find a research institution and support the industrial development
in China.

Will you come back to China?

Yes. I am the only child in my family and my parents are farmers. They would
not be used to a foreign atmosphere. Therefore, I need to return China and
take care of them.

China needs me to develop machinery manufacturing.

And I would have grate space to develop my career.

Can you explain why 90% percent China student didn’t come back?

Many students have rich families; their parent could be used to a foreign
atmosphere.

China has great development gap at those years, they want to find better
lives at USA, but now, China becomes wealthier.

Why are you special?

I don’t really think I am special. I am just a person who wants to do best
and don’t make other disappointed.

What will you do if you don’t get this visa?

I would continue to apply until I get the visa because I don’t want to lose
the valuable opportunity to learn.

Why the I20 say the program is around 66 months?

My program is about 5 years. And the extra 6 months is left for extended
graduation.



Do you want to seek employment after graduation?

No, I will come back once I graduate. I need to take care of my family and I
think China would also provide me with great opportunity to realize my
career goal.

What’s your favorite subject?

Mathematics, mathematics is the foundation of all fields. It’s important.

What is your dissertation about? What is your specific research of your
undergraduate paper?

It’s about target location and tracking under Binocular vision. It’s used
in cooking robot to find target’s location.

What institution did you attend and what was your major?

I am now a senior student majored in Mechanical Design and Manufacturing
with Automitization at the University of Science and Technology of China.

You can also make more of this kind of money in US, why don't you want to
earn more?

Because I am the only child in my family and both of them are farms. They
cannot read or write English, therefore, I need to return to China and take
care of them.

China needs me to develop Industry and manufacturing.

China also provides me with great opportunity to realize my career goal.

How long have you prepared your visa interview?

It took me 2 days to prepare for visa. I prepared necessary materials in the
first day, and organize my thoughts in the second day.

Have you booked your air ticket?

Yes, I have booked tickets and will leave for USA at July 31st.



面签
预约的下午2:30的面签，头天晚上买了一书包的饼干和饮料，以备路上吃（体型较大，
不吃东西拖不动腿）。买的8:03从合肥->上海虹桥的D5680车票，11:15到达上海虹桥站
，出站后买地铁票（5元）换乘地铁2号线，在买了地铁票后吃了点东西，权当午餐。11:
50从虹桥站出发，坐地铁2号线到南京西路（12:30），从一号站台出地铁站，沿南京西
路向西走，右拐进入南汇路，再左拐进入奉贤路，就可以看到很多人在签证排队处。

首先到对面的美琪大戏院4楼存包（10元），问问阿姨哪些不能带进去，电子产品不要带
，钱包可以带，但是我在后续的签证流程中没有用到钱。

然后下楼去马路边排队，一群穿蓝衣服的姐姐会：在DS-160上写一个号；在本上找到你
的名字标记；发给你一个牌子，写着签证流程。

上8楼，工作人员引导，出示护照和DS-160，工作人员：核对护照和人头；在护照背面贴
条形码。

进入到另一列中排队。等待安检。安检时，工作人员会：发盒子，让我们装材料，盒子
放到传送带上，和火车过安检一样。人过安检线。注意：腰带，有金属的要脱下来放到
传送带上，钱包没事，coins也没事。

过了安检，就进入到签证大厅排队了。首先要你的护照，在电脑上按一遍，OK后再排队
按指纹：左手四指->右手四指->双手拇指，OK后进入到面签排队了。这时候就能悄悄观
察几位签证官的表情和他们与签证人的情况。签证人会自愿选择进入左边还是右边。左
侧有3位签证官，右侧有5-6位的样子，其中有一人是PPMM。但表情没有那么灿烂。左侧
一黑光头哥哥表情严肃，和一个学生不耐烦，比划着什么，建议远离；左边还有一个华
人大叔，没考虑。



自然的排到了右边，右边有18（有。。。还是没有啊？忘了）,19,20,21,22,23，PPMM在
21号，服务人员让我去20号排队，貌似是一个巴基斯坦哥哥，我对21号的ppMM情有独钟
，腿不听使唤就到了21号了。结果一家5口人插队到我前面了。。。

工作人员小声说你到20号吧。我很不情愿，但是在签证官的眼皮底下哪敢表现出来。果
断到了20号了。是一个印度哥哥，前面还有一个爷爷在叨叨他孙子的签证。VO挺耐心的
解释（他们完全在用汉语交流）。处理完后就是我了。

Me: (smile) Hello, I am applying for F one student visa

VO: (smile) give me your I 20( 看了2s), and passport.

VO: Ok, which university would you attend?

Me: XX

VO：why would you choose XX？

Me: because it has solid research facilities and rigorous atmosphere.

VO: Ok, Do you have a Master Degree?

Me: MS? No

VO: (怕我没听明白问题), My question is: are you a master?

Me: No, I am directly to Ph.D.

Vo: which institution have you attended?

ME: University of Science and Technology of China.

VO: which city? (说太快了，没听清楚)

Me：瞪大眼睛，做疑问状。

VO: (smile), which city?

Me：眼睛更大了，脖子前伸，做疑问状。

VO：哪个城市（直接说汉语了）

ME：Oh， Hefei， I am sorry. (讪笑)

VO：（:-D）That’s Ok, You have passed.

Me: 瞪大眼睛，做疑问状。说好的check呢。

VO: You have passed.

Me: 已懵，那条子是不是忘了给了

VO：（大笑）你通过了，可以走了（又说汉语了。。。）

ME: （大笑）恋恋不舍，OK， thanks~



由于隔着玻璃，音响声音也不大，有点听不清在说什么。但小哥全程都面带笑容，当然
我这么爱笑怎么会不笑呢，我把大牙都露出来了。

可能是因为我直博的原因，就没问我的专业，没问我要CV，Study plan, Research
Proposal等。

搞定还不到2点，总体来说很顺利。

最后提醒大家看看票上回程是上海站还是上海虹桥站到合肥 ToT。我坑爹的买了上海到
合肥的高铁，结果思维定势，签证完了又坐到了上海虹桥，在虹桥写了下面经，吃了点
东西，玩了玩手机，等到5点还没等到车。。。问工作人员，他说上海站离上海虹桥站要
1个多小时，这时候离5:42分还有不到一个小时了，泪奔。

赶紧去改签，结果上海虹桥到合肥的车在五一这个关头上已经连第二天到合肥的票也卖
完了。又去退票，退完票让同学买了虹桥到南京的，去南京找朋友玩了一天。朋友太仗
义了，陪我逛了一天，给我定了房间，买了回程票。大赞！

五一人太多了，大家保管好财务。祝大家签证顺利！！别买错票！！
